FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This is just a brief list of commonly asked questions, but please always feel free to contact us directly if you can’t find the answers you are looking, would like to provide feedback, or just simply want to say hi! Email us at: hello@industrydancestudios.com.au

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO CLASS?

Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely and permits the teacher to be able to assess body movement, technique, line and form. Students attending ballet classes are required to wear pink leather ballet shoes, ballet tights, leotard & ballet skirt with their hair in a bun. Those studying for exams will be required to wear a uniform as per the SFD (Southern Federation Of Dance). More information will be distributed to those students involved.

All advanced students are required to wear the appropriate dance footwear for each class – Ballet shoes for Ballet, Tap shoes for Tap classes and Jazz shoes for Jazz, Commercial Jazz and Musical theatre. Lyrical/Contemporary students may have bare feet, and hi-top sneakers or runners may be worn for Hip Hop classes. Street clothing and shoes are permitted for Drama and Vocal classes.

AM I EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO ATTEND AN ADVANCED CLASS?

Our advanced classes are for students who have at least 4 years of dance experience. We recommend starting in a beginner class to be assessed by our faculty who will then ensure you are moved in to the appropriate class. Students who have multiple years of dance experience and are transferring from another school are encouraged to discuss their past training with Kristy to help identify the right class for you.

IS BALLET COMPULSORY?

Ballet is only compulsory for those students wishing to be a part of the Industry Studios competition and performance team. As it builds a strong foundation of technique, discipline, strength, flexibility and dance etiquette which transfers into other dance and performance styles – we highly recommend that all students attend at least one ballet class per week, but it is certainly not compulsory. Competition Teams are by invite only and you must have a minimum of 4 years dance experience to be considered.

DO I HAVE TO BE INVOLVED IN EXAMS OR EISTEDDFODS/COMPETITIONS?

No, you have the option to attend all class styles without studying for exams or being involved in eisteddfod work. The faculty at Industry Studios will assess each student and extend an invitation to those who are advanced enough to be considered for exams and/or the performance team, and then it will be up to the student (and their parents) to accept the offer.

DO I HAVE BE A PART OF THE END-OF-YEAR SHOWCASE?

No, we will never force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do! The showcase is optional although it is a wonderful opportunity for you to share your experience, training and love of dance and performing with an audience and your loved ones. Please be aware that in the month leading up to the showcase there will be class time allocated to rehearsing for this event, however you are still more than welcome to attend classes and rehearsals even if you choose not to perform on stage. It is such an enjoyable and fun experience and we hope that you will be involved!

WHAT IF I CAN’T PAY UPFRONT FOR MY CLASSES?

Please come and talk to our friendly front desk staff or to Kristy – we are here to help you and can arrange an auto-payment plan for you.
